FxPro Swap & Overnight Fees (United Arab Emirates)

A swap (or rollover) is the interest debited or credited when you hold a leveraged position overnight.

A swap is the interest debited or credited when a leveraged position is still open past the daily rollover at FxPro, and it is the cost a fixed exchange rate does not protect you from. The dirham's link to the dollar settles what your balance is worth; it says nothing about the interest differential inside the pair you are holding, which is what a swap is built from. So the funding side of the account is knowable in advance and the holding side is not: the rate depends on the instrument and on whether you are long or short, and Wednesday nights carry triple swap to cover the weekend value date. Eligible clients can use a swap-free (Islamic) account, which holds no overnight swap. The measured long and short figures per instrument are in the table below; the exact ones applied to your account are in your platform.

Measured swap rates (Raw+)

InstrumentLong — per lot / nightShort — per lot / nightLong carry / yrShort carry / yr
EUR/USD−$8.90 (-8.9 pts)+$1.90 (1.9 pts)−2.78%+0.59%
GBP/USD−$3.10 (-3.1 pts)−$4.20 (-4.2 pts)−0.83%−1.12%
AUD/USD−$1.95 (-1.95 pts)−$2.90 (-2.9 pts)−0.99%−1.48%
USD/CAD+$1.63 (2.25 pts)−$5.88 (-8.1 pts)+0.6%−2.15%
USD/JPY+$4.34 (6.9 pts)−$17.58 (-27.95 pts)+1.58%−6.42%
XAU/USD (Gold)−$67.90 (-67.9 pts)+$27.00 (27 pts)−5.38%+2.14%

What you are debited (−) or credited (+) per standard lot held past the daily rollover, measured on FxPro’s own MT5 Raw+ feed (with the raw points in brackets). A negative number costs you to hold; a positive one pays you. Triple swap is applied on Wednesday night to cover the weekend value date. Carry / yr is the annualised swap yield (swap × 365 ÷ notional at the live price) — a rough guide to what holding the position costs or earns over a year, shown where we have a live price. What it really costs to hold a position (measured)

InstrumentLong 1dLong 1wLong 1moShort 1dShort 1wShort 1mo
EUR/USD$17.90$71.30$276.00$7.10−$4.30−$48.00
GBP/USD$16.10$34.70$106.00$17.20$42.40$139.00
AUD/USD$12.95$24.65$69.50$13.90$31.30$98.00
USD/CAD$8.27−$1.51−$39.00$15.78$51.06$186.30
USD/JPY$4.55−$21.49−$121.31$26.47$131.95$536.29
XAU/USD (Gold)$89.90$497.30$2,059.00−$5.00−$167.00−$788.00

Total net cost to hold one standard lot over time — the spread plus accumulated swap. A positive figure is what it costs you; a negative one means you come out ahead (positive carry). For example, holding EUR/USD long for a month costs about $276, while a EUR/USD short earns about $48. Based on measured spreads and current swaps — rates vary.

Avoiding swaps

If you hold positions overnight regularly, a swap-free (Islamic) account may avoid swap interest for eligible clients. Check live swap rates inside your platform before holding overnight.

A fixed currency and a floating cost of time

Two different things get filed under the same word. One is the price of the dirham against the dollar, which is administered and has not moved in decades. The other is the price of time — what it costs to keep borrowed exposure open for one more night — and that one is set by markets and by the terms of the account. Funding from the UAE gives you certainty about the first and none at all about the second, which is exactly why the overnight line deserves its own place in a plan even when the funding line does not.

The swap is charged per night and per lot, it changes sign with direction, and on some instruments it credits your account rather than debits it. None of that is visible at the moment the order goes in. It appears only once the position has survived a rollover, which is why a trade that felt cheap on entry can read differently after a week of being left alone.

Counting nights, not days

The unit of the overnight bill is the rollover, not the calendar day. A position opened and closed inside one session never meets it. A position opened on Tuesday afternoon and closed on Thursday morning meets it twice, and one of those two is the Wednesday charge that carries the weekend value date. Market holidays and long weekends move where those nights fall, so the count is worth doing against a calendar rather than from memory.

Once the nights are counted, the rest is multiplication — and here it stops there, because the rate behind your balance is fixed. Take the per-night figure for the instrument and direction from the measured table above, multiply by the number of nights and by your lot size, convert once, and you have the holding cost in local money. The spread you paid on the way in sits on our spreads and costs page and belongs to a separate line of the same plan.

The two things worth re-checking, on two different clocks

Swap figures move with market rates, so they are read before a hold rather than remembered from the last one. The measured table on this page is refreshed on a schedule and carries the date it was read; the figures actually applied to your position are the ones in your platform. A swap-free (Islamic) account removes this line entirely for eligible clients, and eligibility is decided by FxPro rather than assumed.

The currency arrangement runs on a much slower clock, but it is still policy rather than physics, and broker terms change too. Neither is expensive to verify: one takes a glance at the platform before holding a position, the other takes a question to your bank before the first transfer. Always confirm current terms before committing money.

Frequently asked questions

Does the pegged dirham protect me from swap charges?
No. The peg fixes the rate between the dirham and the dollar. A swap comes from the interest differential inside the instrument you are holding and from the financing terms of the account, so a fixed currency link makes your balance predictable, not your cost of holding.
What can I know about an overnight position in advance?
The calendar and the direction. You know the charge only lands if the position survives the daily rollover, that Wednesday night is charged triple swap to cover the weekend value date, and which side of the trade is debited rather than credited. The size of the rate itself moves with market rates — read it in the table above or in your platform before you hold.
Why is the swap tripled on Wednesday?
Positions held over Wednesday night are usually charged triple swap to cover the weekend, when markets are closed but value dates still roll forward.
How do I budget a multi-day hold in dirhams?
Take the per-night figure for your instrument and direction from the table above, count the nights the position will actually be open including the Wednesday triple, and convert once. Because the dirham is held at a fixed rate against the dollar, that conversion does not need redoing if the trade runs longer than planned.
What is a swap at FxPro?
A swap is the interest charged or paid for holding a leveraged position overnight; the rate depends on the instrument and on the direction of the trade.
How can I avoid swap charges at FxPro?
Eligible clients can use a swap-free (Islamic) account, which holds no overnight swap interest. Confirm eligibility with FxPro.
Where can I see the current FxPro swap rates?
Live swap rates are shown per instrument inside your FxPro platform; check them before holding a position overnight, as they change with market rates.
How are gold (XAU/USD) swaps charged?
Swaps apply per instrument and per direction, so metals such as gold carry their own long and short rates — the measured figures are in the table above and the exact ones are in your platform.

What traders report

Overnight cost only comes up here among traders who actually hold. One has kept short GBP/USD and EUR/USD open since November and says the swap charges were never what made him close them; the other is a swing trader who says the swap-free Islamic account takes the question off his desk entirely. Both speak from the multi-day end of the market — nothing here comes from anyone who closes before rollover, because they never meet the charge.

★★★★★
FxPro doesn't charge high swap commissions. I've been holding short positions on gbpusd and eurusd since november.

I'm a swing trader, so for me the spreads is just nice and acceptable with 0 commission, they offer Islamic swap free.
